General PREFERENCES

The general user preferences include the following options:

  • User interface: choose which colour scheme you wish to apply to the IATE graphic interface.
Use the ‘dark mode’ to reduce screen glare.
  • Display management options (*): users involved in data management may wish to give more visibility to various management options (add to batch attachments operation*, add to batch collections operation*, add to merge operation*, add to project*, add to table view*, find duplicates*). If you select ‘yes’, the management options will be visible on the results page and in the full entry view.
SearchES and results

The user preferences for searches and results include the following options:

  • Matching type: choose how closely your query needs to match the IATE content. Read more about matching options.
  • Results per page: set the number of results that you wish to display per page.
  • Source and target languages: choose your default source and target languages when launching a search. Read more about source and target languages.
Select all languages via the icon ANY button in the language panel.
  • Visualisation: choose your default view for running searches and displaying the results. You can change between the ‘standard view’ and the ‘interpreters’ view’. Read more about standard and interpreters’ views.
  • Display languages (interpreters’ view): choose the display order for your source and target languages in the interpreters’ view by dragging and dropping the selected language codes from the left panel to the right panel.
  • Language validation (source and target language) (*): choose the validation status(es) of the language levels (source and target) that you wish to retrieve in your search results. By default all statuses are selected.
  • Term validation (source and target language) (*): choose the validation status(es) of the term levels (source and target) that you wish to retrieve in your search results. By default all statuses are selected.
  • Owner: predefine the owner filter for your searches. By default all owners are selected.
  • Entry status (*): choose which entry status(es) should be retrieved. By default, raw entries are excluded from search results.
  • Collection type: choose which collection type(s) should be considered to refine your searches. By default, all collection types are selected.

Read the users and search access rights section below to find out more information on the availability of options depending on your user profile.

FULL entry view

The user preferences for full entry view include the following options:

  • Visualisation: choose your preferred language-display option for the full entry view. Choose the ‘list view’ to display language levels one after the other. Choose the ‘side-by-side view’ to display two or three languages next to each other. Choose the ‘default’ view to let IATE optimise how the entry is displayed: depending on the number of languages of your search, the full entry view will be displayed in side-by-side view (up to three languages) or in list view (if you open more than three languages).
  • Expand LIL by default: if not expanded, the language-independent level will display the domain(s), origin(s) (if any), cross-references (if any) and owner fields. Select ‘yes’ if you wish to see all the LIL fields (whether they have been filled in or not) when opening an entry.
  • Load TPM info (*): to optimise IATE’s performance, the content of the ‘Related projects’ field is not loaded by default. Select ‘yes’ if you need the system to retrieve this information automatically.
  • Expand LL collections: select ‘yes’ if you always need to view the collections attached to the language level of the entry that you are consulting.
  • Expand TL collections: select ‘yes’ if you always need to view the collections attached to the term level of the entry that you are consulting.
  • Preferred languages: indicate which language(s) should be displayed after the source language and the anchor language. If you do not set preferred languages, the languages will appear in alphabetical order (according to language code).
Entry creation (*)

The user preferences for entry creation include the following options:

  • Creation form (*): the default creation form can be either monolingual or bilingual. The default languages are English and your first working language.
Once you have chosen your user preferences, click on ‘Save’.
To apply the new settings to the search form, click on ‘Apply my user preferences’.
To apply the new settings to the full entry view, simply refresh the page.
To apply the new settings to the entry creation form, click on ‘Reset’ at the bottom of the page.
Terminology projects (*)

The user preferences for terminology projects allow you to configure your TPM tables or apply ready-made presets. Select a preset configuration from the drop-down list, or drag-and-drop the columns to define your own settings for the following tables:

  • Search (Projects)
  • Search (My assignments)
  • Preparatory material
  • Project entries
  • My assigned entries
Experimental features (*)

The user preferences for experimental features allow you to choose which eTranslation engine you would like to be used for any machine translation proposals provided by IATE.
