TEM candidate management (*)

Once you have launched your term extraction request, you can monitor its status and start processing the proposed candidate terms.

In this page you will find information on how to:

  • Retrieve a TEM request
  • View candidate terms
  • Manage candidate terms

Read more on user groups and access rights.

RETRIEVE A tem request

This window allows you to check whether your requests have been submitted, completed or have failed. You can also see the date they were submitted.

Click on the ‘Expand’ button to view the following request details:

  • source (and target) language(s);
  • source (and target) files and URL(s); and
  • name of the exclusion list.

Once the request has been completed, you can click on the ‘View terms’ icon to open a new tab in the TEM module to display the candidate terms extracted from your corpus and start processing them.

view candidate TERMS

In this tab, you will find all the candidates extracted from the submitted document(s) and/or URL(s). You can change the display of the results from ‘List view’ to ‘Columns’, and make use of the fullscreen view.

The results are numbered by page, and you can also choose the number of results you wish to view per page.

Sort your results by rank (by default) or in alphabetical order, and then in ascending or descending order by clicking on the buttons.

Filter candidate terms by status (saved, deleted, excluded or not specified) and/or by type (single words or multiple words).

Please note that for bilingual results, sorting options and filtering by single or multiple words are applied to source candidates.
Manage candidate TERMs

Click on the black arrow next to each candidate term to expand it and view:

  • the number of occurrences in the uploaded corpus;
  • the term in context for its first 20 occurrences and the source of the contexts; and
  • potential duplicates in IATE.
apply actions to candidates

Select the candidates (source and target) and click on the ‘Actions’ button in the top-right corner to:

  • Collapse all (only in columns view): enables you to collapse all the candidates that you have opened
  • Unselect all
  • Save: to keep the selected candidate terms and be able to filter them by status
  • Unsave: to reverse the save
  • Add to exclusion list: the term will display the icon to indicate that it has been added to an exclusion list
  • Delete term: the term will display the icon to indicate that it has been selected for deletion
  • Undelete: to reverse the deletion or exclusion
Right-click on a candidate term to display the list of individual actions and their keyboard shortcuts.
  • Batch search: to search by list of terms and find out whether the selected candidate terms already exist in IATE. Choose the matching type (all words, exact match, exact string or partial string) to apply to the selected candidates. Once your request has been processed, download it from the ‘Asynchronous requests’ page. The export will list the terms that are already present in IATE, including all languages and corresponding metadata (domains, term references, terms in context, context references, notes, etc.)
  • Create a new entry (*): to create raw entries for the selected candidates. The domain(s) can be selected via the pop-up window. Other fields are set automatically: the term reference is the document name, the term type is ‘term’ by default, the reliability is set to two stars, the part of speech is defined by the TEM engine, and the context is either whichever one you selected or the first one in the initial results. The newly created entry or entries are accessible by clicking on the pen icon.
  • Add to project (*): to add the selected candidates to the preparatory material table of a TPM project for which you are a coordinator.
  • Export: to download a set of candidate terms according to their status (saved, deleted, excluded, or all) and type (single words, multiple words, or all), and further specify if you want to include only the occurrences (i.e. contexts) you selected and saved for these terms, or to include all occurrences. Once your request has been processed, download it from the ‘Asynchronous requests’ page.
