Standard view vs interpreters’ view

IATE offers two different views when you run searches and display the results:

  • the ‘standard view‘ shows your results in a list format, with metadata readily displayed;
  • the ‘interpreters’ view‘ shows the same results in a table format, with metadata available if needed.

The view you choose also determines which search filters are available and how they are displayed. Read more on the differences between the views.

To select your view, click on the button . This button is available in the top-right corner of the following pages:

  • Main search
  • Search by collection
  • Bookmarks
The standard view is selected by default. You can manually change it to the interpreters’ view when needed, or you can go to your user preferences (*) and select the interpreters’ view as your default instead.
STANDARD VIEW (list)

In its simplest form, the search panel is composed of a search bar and two language selectors. You can find more detailed search options by clicking on the button ‘Open expanded search’. Read more about the expanded search.

The standard view displays all the search results one after the other, mirroring the structure of an entry (language-independent level first, then language and term levels). Read more about the results.

INTERPRETERS’ VIEW (table)

This view is targeted to interpreters and their specific needs, but can be convenient for other users as well.

To save time when launching a search, the most used filters are directly visible (domains and search by term types) and the language selectors have been rearranged.

The results are shown in a table to optimise the display:

  • The selected languages are displayed side by side.
  • The language order can be chosen in the user preferences (*).
  • Many results can be viewed without having to scroll down.
  • Entry collections are displayed.
  • It is possible to show or hide the metadata, i.e. the ‘Additional information’ and ‘Collections’ columns.
  • Results are sorted by relevancy by default but they can also be sorted alphabetically. Click on the ‘Sort alphabetically’ button and then on the language you wish to apply the sorting to.
