SEARCH BOX
The search box contains a search field, a backspace button and a search button.
- Click in the search field to insert (type or paste) a term or an IATE entry ID for your search. As soon as you have typed five or more characters, an autocomplete feature will show matching terms in the source language.
- Click on the search button or press Enter on your keyboard to launch your search.
- Click on the backspace button to delete the content already inserted in the search field.
After you have launched a search, the cursor stays active in the search field. This is indicated by the orange border around the search field. When the cursor has been moved elsewhere in the page, use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+i to move it back to the search field. |
LANGUAGE selectorS
Two language selectors allow you to select one or more source languages and one or more target languages. Both selectors include all the EU languages (ISO codes), plus Latin (LA) and the conventional code MUL. Additionally, other language codes might be displayed if there is sharable terminology from EU bodies in certain policy fields.
Irrespective of the source and target languages selected, LA and MUL are also included as source languages and displayed as target languages by default.
MUL stands for Multilingual and is used for terms that are the same across all languages, like ISO codes, chemical formulas or the acronym IATE itself. |
To quickly find what you are looking for, choose the right source language and select only those target languages that you really need. Otherwise your search might take longer and you may have too many results to go through.
Select your source language before inserting a term in the search field to enable the autocomplete feature. |
If for some reason you cannot specify the source language, it is possible to select ‘Any language’ by clicking on the icon in the source language selector (*). The search results will include entries containing the matching search string in any of the selected languages.
This feature is very resource-intensive and may significantly slow down the loading of your search results. We recommend that you use it only if absolutely necessary. |
You can select one or several target languages, or choose to see ‘All EU’ target languages by clicking on the icon in the target-language selector. If you need to see other languages, click on the ‘Show more’ button to open the non-EU languages selector.
The autocomplete feature works when you have selected one source language only. It will be disabled if you select ‘Any’ or multiple source languages. Note also that the autocomplete shows any matching terms in your source language. If the entry where that term appears does not match your other search criteria (target language, filters, etc.), it is possible that your search will not produce any results. |
Read the user groups and search access rights section below to find out more information on the availability of languages depending on your user profile.
To select a completely new language and remove all the previously selected languages in one go, double-click on the new language you want. |
After a term search has been launched, the language selectors are collapsed. Click on the arrow to expand each selector again as needed.
SEARCH BY id
You can also search by entry ID. Simply enter a number in the search box, and IATE will automatically switch to a search by entry ID. When searching by ID, all the available languages on the entry will be retrieved. You can retrieve up to 100 entries by listing their ID numbers separated by a comma or a space. If an entry in the list does not exist, it will be skipped.
If you wish to search for a number in the Term field (or in another text field), simply toggle the ‘Search by ID’ sliding button to ‘off’. |
