Filter by domain

You can restrict your search to entries belonging to a specific domain or subdomain. When you select a domain or subdomain, all items below it are included by default: the search retrieves entries belonging to the selected domain or subdomain, and to any of the subdomains below. However, you can also choose to exclude lower subdomains and only retrieve entries which match the specific domain or subdomain selected, using the toggle button just below your selection. The choice to search in subdomains or not applies to all selected domains and subdomains.

To select a domain by which to filter, you can:

  • click on ‘Add’ next to the ‘Domains’ filter, browse through the tree (expanding and collapsing the levels and sublevels) and click on the domain(s) or subdomain(s) you want to add to your selection
  • insert a keyword in the ‘Domains’ search box and launch a search in the domains tree, then click the domain(s) or subdomain(s) you want to add to your selection.

To remove a domain or subdomain from your selection, hover over it. A small bin icon will appear at the beginning of the line. Click it to remove the domain or subdomain from your selection.

You can select and filter by as many domains and subdomains as you wish. It is advisable to filter only by first- or second-level domains using the default option ‘Search in subdomains too’ in order not to narrow down the search too much.
IATE uses as its domain classification the EuroVoc thesaurus ☍. A second LAW branch (14 LAW) has also been added to include the specific classification used by the Court of Justice of the European Union.
Since many of the subdomains under the CJEU LAW branch are also present in the EuroVoc domain classification, the domain filter available in the search and in the IATE downloads includes both equivalent domains when available.
Filter by entry owner

By default, all data owners are selected. It is possible to restrict the search to only one or several entry owners. You can save your preferred setting under ‘User preferences‘.

Filter by collection

You can search the collections by keyword (or via the ‘Collections expanded search’) and see which thematic collections are available in that subject area. One or more collections can be selected in the filter, and the search will only retrieve IATE entries belonging to the selected collections.

Other filters

Under ‘Show more’, other search criteria are available:

  • Filter by primarity: you can restrict your search to primary entries (higher quality and multilingual entries) or to non-primary entries. By default, both are included in the results.
  • Filter by confidentiality at entry level (*). By default, both confidential and non-confidential entries are included in the results.
  • Filter by entry status (*). By default, raw entries (those at an early preparatory stage) are filtered out. This can be changed in the ‘User preferences‘.
  • Filter by language and term validation status (for source and target language) (*). External users have access to validated data only. All data (validated, not validated and pre-IATE) are included by default for internal users. This can be changed in the ‘User preferences‘.
  • Filter by source or target term reliability: you can restrict your search to specific reliability values for the source and/or target terms (e.g. to retrieve only results where the target terms have a high reliability). By default, all reliability values are included.
  • Filter by aggregated field completion score at entry level and at language level (source and target) (*).
You can reset any selected values by clicking on ‘Reset search settings’ if you are not logged in or ‘Apply your user preferences’ if you are logged in.
These filters are strict, meaning that they add to each other (AND condition) and data not matching the search criteria AND the applied filter will not show up in the results list.
