The ‘confidentiality’ metadata field in IATE controls the visibility of information, protecting sensitive or restricted content while allowing public access to general, non-sensitive information.
By default, all entries are marked as ‘not confidential’, meaning that all information will be visible in the public version of IATE once validated. However, you can restrict the confidentiality of an entire entry (at the language-independent level or LIL), a specific language level (LL) and/or term level (TL), or any reference or note field.
The possible values for this field are:
- Not confidential: Default setting and recommended option, unless there is a compelling reason to restrict access.
- Confidential: Information is only available to staff in all IATE partner services. Confidential entries are not available to non-authenticated users. Different confidentiality levels are available depending on your user rights.
For new entries that you are creating,
- click on the
icon of the relevant textual field or select ‘Confidential’ for the LIL, TL or LL, as needed. Different options are available depending on your user rights.
For existing entries,
- open the level you wish to edit and click on the
icon of the relevant textual field or select ‘Confidential’ for the LIL, TL or LL, as needed; - or use the Quick edit panel to mark the relevant part(s) as confidential. Different options are available depending on your user rights.
